Renowned around the world, the Royal Shakespeare Company performs throughout the year in Stratford-upon-Avon

One of the world’s best-known theatre ensembles, the Royal Shakespeare Company performs the works of Shakespeare, his contemporaries and new writing, throughout the year in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Showcasing two thrust stage auditoria, the 1,000 seat Royal Shakespeare Theatre and 450 seat Swan Theatre, bringing audiences and actors closer together in the best possible setting to experience live theatre.

If you don’t have time to see a performance then why not simply enjoy the stunning views from the Tower, discover theatrical secrets on a Theatre Tour, spend time exploring the free exhibitions, simply relax by the River Avon with a coffee or kick back with a divine cocktail in the Rooftop Restaurant.

Directions

By car

Stratford-upon-Avon is a short drive from Junction 15 of the M40, giving good access to the M42, M5, M6 and M25. Our postcode is CV37 6BB.

Car parks

There is a large choice of fee-charging car parks in Stratford-upon-Avon. 

Disabled parking

There are seven on Waterside directly outside the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and ten bays on Chapel Lane, the road opposite the Swan Theatre. These spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Southern Lane also has on-road parking for blue badge holders; the ten parking bays at the side and rear of The Courtyard Theatre are still available. There is a car drop off point directly outside the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and a coach drop off point just past the Swan Theatre.

Park and Ride

Stratford's Park and Ride service runs daily from 7.30am (from 10 am Sunday). The last Park and Ride bus leaves Bridge Street at 11.15pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Show your RSC theatre tickets or email confirmation for a discounted Maxi Family Ticket (2 adults and up to 4 children) – only £2 (all day).

By train

The London Midland service provides travel directly to Stratford-upon-Avon train station from Birmingham (Snow Hill or Moor Street stations). Last train back to Birmingham, Monday – Friday, at 11.30pm

Chiltern Railways offer direct trains from London Marylebone (via Warwick, Warwick Parkway, Leamington Spa, Banbury and Bicester North), with last train back to London, Monday – Friday, at 11.15pm. By bus or coach

By air

Stratford-upon-Avon is 27 miles from Birmingham Airport and 60 miles from East Midlands Airport.  It is also convenient for Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports to the south.

Group Visits

We welcome groups to the Royal Shakespeare Company and offer a number of facilities to make bringing your group to the RSC as easy as possible. 

Group ticket discounts are available for all Monday to Friday performances, for Theatre Tours and for the Tower.

We have a range of exclusive tour packages available for groups, starting at just £189 for a group of 20, combining a Front of House Tour followed by morning coffee with pastries or a cream tea.

Family Friendly

  • Play Cart: full of fun activities and available to use every day in the Swan Reading Room and Riverside Cafe. Free.
  • Treasure Trail: an easy to follow route through the theatre's history. Pick up a leaflet in the theatre foyers. 
  • Family events: including the Story Garden and Play in a Day. 
  • Baby changing facilities in all ladies' toilets, plus the Swan Theatre and Rooftop Restaurant accessible toilets for gentlemen.
  • Pram-friendly building: level access throughout and lifts to all floors, and we can store prams in our cloakroom during the day on request.

There is level access to our buildings from Waterside.There are lifts to all floors and accessible toilets on all levels of the theatre.

We offer captioned and audio described performances along with touch tours for all RSC productions, helping to enhance your experience at the theatre.

The Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres are fitted with an induction loop, as is the Box Office, cloakroom, stage door and shop counters. Hearing and Guide dogs are welcome into our buildings, and our auditoria.

Improving Visibility 

There are four seats available at every performance in the front row of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and Swan Theatre stalls for people with either a visual or hearing impairment. Please ask RSC Box Office staff about the availability of these seats when booking your ticket.

Rooftop Restaurant and Bar

For great food and stunning views whatever the occasion visit the Rooftop Restaurant and Bar. Open daily from 11.30am (12 noon Sunday) and after the show, The Rootop Restaurant is the perfect place for lunch, afternoon tea, pre-show dining, a family celebration or a night out with friends. 

Menus change regularly and all dishes are available as half portions for our smaller guests. All dishes are cooked to order by our team of chefs using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Gluten free and dairy free options available.

With an extensive and cocktail wine list, this is a great place to kick back and soak up the atmosphere. 

On the third floor of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre with stunning views over the River Avon and Bancroft Gardens, you don’t need to be seeing a show to eat at the Rooftop Restaurant – just an appetite!

Riverside Cafe

The cafe is open daily from 10am.

Children and families are welcome in the Riverside Cafe on the ground floor, where you can enjoy fairtrade, organic tea and coffee, snacks and light lunches.

Children can be entertained with our Play Cart, filled with fun activities and books to read.

All tea and coffee served in the RSC is fairtrade and organic.

Swan Bar

Open daily from 12 noon.

The perfect place to relax with a coffee. Children are occupied in our Reading Room with our Play Cart and Shakespeare insult chair!
