Afternoon Tea in Leamington Spa
Indulge in afternoon tea in fine Regency surroundings
There is nothing more quintessentially English than afternoon tea and few more upmarket places to sample it than Royal Leamington Spa.
It was the 7th Duchess of Bedford who is credited with beginning the ritual of afternoon tea back in 1840. In order to fill the ‘gap’ between luncheon and her evening meal, she asked her footman for a pot of tea and some light refreshment. She enjoyed her ‘tea’ so much that the next step was to invite friends over to gossip over tea, finger sandwiches and cakes. Afternoon tea soon became fashionable among the upper classes, but these days it is enjoyed by people of all ages and from all walks of life.
You can partake in afternoon tea in Leamington in one of the many fine restaurants and hotels in this Regency spa town, as well as at the Royal Pump Rooms themselves. Or, for a luxurious afternoon tea experience, head to The Brasserie at Mallory Court on the outskirts of Leamington where you may wish to add a glass of bubbly for an extra bit of indulgence.
