Event Description

Get creative! Come and draw, paint, stick and colour with our art-based workshops running Monday to Friday. Part of the ‘Fantastic for Families’ national art campaign, this October half term activity is sure to entertain the whole family.

Don’t miss our brand new interactive trail available every day… Plans for the Morris 8 have been lost and our junior designer’s future hangs in the balance… Can you help? Our costumed guides will brief you on the case and you will need to follow the trail of clues around the Museum to solve the mystery. Suitable for all the family.

It wouldn’t be October half term without our Halloween ‘Black Cat’ trail! Search high and low for the Museum cats and find the colours of the cats’ eyes in our ‘Black Cat’ trail. Available every day and suitable for 3 years plus.

Our ‘My First Car’ project continues this October half term. Whether you’re just learning to drive a pedal car or had your licence for years, come and tell us about your first car – what it looks like, how it drives, create a drawing or compose a few words. We would love to see and hear about it! Drop into our Learning Spaces all week 10am to 4pm, suitable for 3 years plus.

Workshops:

Monday & Tuesday

Be part of the ‘Motor Mouths’ digital arts project telling the story of the UK’s changing automotive landscape through digital portraits of car factory workers. Using the same digital technology you will start by drawing your car and before you know it you could see yourself driving your first car!

Suitable for 5 year old upwards with adult supervision.

Wednesday

Have a go at painting your ‘My First Car’ in watercolour. Artist, Maria Clancy, will guide you through the process and techniques of painting in watercolour. There will then be a chance for you to add your car to a large picture of the Museum painted by Maria. This is a watercolour workshop using water-based washable paint.

Suitable for 5 year old upwards with adult supervision.

Thursday

Have a go at drawing and designing ‘My First Car’. Could it be a Formula 1 racing car or even a car that can go into Space? Artist, Brian Casey, will be on hand to guide you through the process of drawing and sketching your masterpiece. You can also come and see Brian’s amazing 10 metre long frieze of 9 pairs of Formula 1 cars and drivers.

Suitable for 5 year old upwards with adult supervision.

Friday

Stamp your ‘Marque’. Choose from an array of templates inspired by our collection of car badges. This workshop is part of the ‘Make your Marque’ project, where the Museum is working with a group of young people from Lillington Youth Centre on a project linked to our current ‘Motoring Treasures’ exhibition. It is these young people that have created the ‘Marque’ stamps used for this activity. This is a printing workshop using water-based washable paint.

Suitable for 5 year old upwards with Adult supervision.

All workshops run from 10am to 3pm. There is no need to book, just drop into the Learning Spaces. All material supplied, just bring your imagination. Most workshops allow you to take away your completed masterpiece and are suitable for 5 years plus unless otherwise stated.

‘Make your Marque’ project

Collaborating with artist Robyn Woolston, a variety of art activities are taking place with a group of young people from Lillington Youth Centre using our British Motoring Treasures exhibition for inspiration. This will result in a temporary art installation to be displayed in the Museum from the end of October 2017 to early May 2018.
