A return visit by the well-known and experienced willow weaver Avril Smolders.
There was a time not so long ago when if you needed a basket or other small container you would make it from the material available in or next to the water ways, local fields and hedgerows. Willow was a popular material due to its flexibility. Baskets were created for a wide range of uses in the countryside in the wetlands reeds were often used to make baskets.
Avril will be explaining and showing how to make baskets and other objects using willow. There will be a range of willow items for sale.
Guided tours, the mouse trail, films and refreshments in the café along with gifts / souvenirs will also be available.
