With the advent of the sunshine and longer days, our thoughts inevitably turn to al fresco dining and entertaining family or friends. Where better to find inspiration for new dishes or to discover new produce than at a food festival?
And there are certainly plenty of local food-and drink-related events taking place this summer around Warwickshire to tickle your taste buds and quench your thirst.
First on the menu is the Alcester Food Festival on 21st May. With around 100 stalls filling the centre of this picturesque market town, you’ll be able to discover a bounty of spring harvest – from artisan cheeses and breads to rare breed meat and game – much of it locally produced.
Drawing on the Vale of Evesham’s strong association with that renowned spring delicacy – asparagus – The Fleece Inn is holding an Asparagus Family Fun Day on 30th May alongside its Annual Asparagus Auctions, which take place from 29th May to 5th June.
Another fun foodie day out for the whole family is guaranteed at the Great British Food Festival held at Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens near Alcester on 11th-12th June. Stalls, activities, demos and kids’ cookery lessons will combine with competitions, challenges and live music to produce the perfect mix.
If you enjoy a tipple, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to sample real ales and ciders washed down with live music at the Beer, Cider & Music Festival. Following last year’s successful inaugural event, this will be held at Warwick Racecourse on 15th-16th July and will showcase Warwickshire breweries.
The hugely popular Leamington Spa Food & Drink Festival returns on 10th-11th September in the Royal Pump Room Gardens. Featuring an action-packed programme – along with the tempting Taste Trail around town – this free event is sure to go down a treat.
Last but by no means least, the Stratford-upon-Avon Town Centre Food Festival is a FREE festival on 23rd-25th September, with stalls showcasing every imaginable foodie delight! There are also Real Ale and Taste Trails around the town.
Hopefully we’ve managed to whet your appetite to visit one or more of these fabulous festivals.
