Shakespeare’s England must surely be one of the UK’s most romantic settings for Valentine’s Day. And it certainly provides plenty of opportunities for you to romance your loved one – by day or night!

Maybe visit Anne Hathaway’s Cottage at the very place where Shakespeare courted his bride-to-be, take a romantic stroll through the stunning garden at Hall’s Croft or transform into Shakespeare’s romantic heroes by ‘acting up’ at Shakespeare’s Birthplace.

Alternatively, you might prefer a romantic snowdrop day at Hill Close Gardens in Warwick or to whisk your loved one off to Batsford Arboretum for a delicious breakfast, followed by a stroll around the magical arboretum.

If boating appeals more to your romantic nature, you can take a leisurely trip down the tranquil River Avon – either hiring your own boat or letting Avon Boating or the Countess of Evesham take the strain.

If you’d like to treat your loved one to a Valentine’s Day lunch or dinner, you’re spoilt for choice. Special menus are available at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s Rooftop Restaurant, by candlelight at The Fleece Inn in Worcestershire, in both the Main House and Brasserie at Mallory Court Hotel near Leamington Spa, plus The Kings Hotel in Chipping Campden.

Or dig out your best eveningwear and celebrate Valentine’s Day in style with a glamorous night of dinner, dancing and drinks at Compton Verney’s Regency Ball.

To make more of an occasion of it, you might wish to combine dining out with an overnight stay. Many of the region’s hotels are offering special Valentine’s packages, including The Bell at Alderminster and The Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.

For something a bit different, book yourself in to Warwick Castle’s Knight’s Village, which is nestled in a secluded woodland grove. The romantic ‘knight’ to remember on 14th February includes Prosecco on arrival, a candle-lit dinner accompanied by a string quartet, breakfast, car parking and two days’ entrance to the Castle.

We have a more in depth look at some of the other offerings around the region for Valentine’s Day, including dining by candlelight, and other options of places to visit or stay over.
