Coventry Transport Museum houses the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles on the planet and tells the story of a city which changed the world through transport. Visitors can expect captivating displays, interactive galleries, and highly immersive exhibitions – a day to remember.

14 fully accessible galleries are home to the fastest vehicle in the world, pioneering bicycles, transport champions and many of the most innovative, memorable, and luxurious vehicles of the last 200 years. For those seeking more adventure, walk through The Blitz experience or enjoy a ride in one of three 4D simulator rides.*

Aside from the collection itself, the programme includes touring exhibitions from across the globe, hands on family activities and a wide range of events from Breakfast Clubs to fusion festivals.

The Museum’s collection consists of motor cars, commercial vehicles, cycles and motorcycles.  In addition, extensive collections of automobilia, books, photographs and a wealth of other archive material is held and conserved at the Coventry Archives at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. Most of the collection exists through the outstanding generosity of individual donors.

How to find us

Coventry is close to the M1/M6/M40/M42. Follow signs to city centre and take junction 1 or 2. As a city centre attraction there is no parking available at the Museum itself however, city centre pay and display car parks are all within walking distance. The nearest car parks to the Museum are Bishop Street (CV1 1JN), and Belgrade Plaza (CV1 4AJ). Click here for further details about car parks around the Museum.

Secure motorbike parking is available at Belgrade Plaza car park, which is a short walk from the Museum and is accessed via Junction 9 of the Coventry Ring Road (CV1 4AJ).

There are excellent links to London Euston via London Northwestern Railway. London Northwestern Railway offers direct services from major cities, such as London and Birmingham to Coventry Rail Station. Cross Country provides long distance routes from the north and south. There are also local services to Nuneaton, Northampton and Leamington Spa. The Museum is a 15-minute walk from Coventry Rail Station. Buses to the City Centre from the railway station stop near the Museum. Downloadable maps are available from the Visit Coventry & Warwickshire website.

Most buses stop at Pool Meadow bus station or on Trinity Street, both of which are a 2 minute walk from the Museum. Coventry has a Park & Ride service, which has a stop-off point at the Junction of Corporation Street and Burges, which is very close to the Museum.  The route operates from Coventry’s War Memorial Park situated on the Kenilworth Road/ A45.  Find out more about Coventry’s Park & Ride service.

Our normal opening hours Monday – Sunday (including bank holidays) are:

10.00am – 5.00pm (last admission 4.30pm)

Open every day of the year except 24 – 26 December and 1 January.


Exhibitions and Events 



Getting around the Museum

There are full-colour museum guides available in the shop for £5. There is also a large wall map available in reception, near to the main entrance.

There is wheelchair access suitable for unaccompanied wheelchair users to most parts of the Museum. Please ask for help in accessing Model World.

Lift access is provided to both floors of the Museum, and we also have a small number of wheelchairs available free of charge for visitors to use whilst at the Museum. These chairs are allocated on a first come first served basis, although any advance requests will be considered. Please contact the Museum on 024 7623 4270 for more information.

Makaton symbols are at the entrance to each new exhibition to explain the theme for that space.

The exhibitions have a mixture of written material, pictures, audio, video and interactives.  

The videos and interactives have special directional speakers. The sound does not carry across the space but can still be heard when you stand close to the speakers. There are subtitles for main videos with commentary.

The toilets, including accessible facilities, are on the ground floor to the left of the main entrance beside the café, and also on the first floor next to the Transport Technology exhibition. The nearest Changing Places facility is at Central Library, which is approximately ¼ mile away. 

Esquires Café is situated to the left of the main entrance. The café is fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible. 

A Picnic Area is located in Gallery 8 Workdays and Holidays for you to enjoy your packed lunches.

Baby changing facilities are available in the accessible toilet by Esquires as well as the parent room on the first floor in Gallery 10 .

Breastfeeding and bottle feeding is welcome throughout the museum. Should you and your baby prefer more privacy, a parent room is available.

Hot water for baby bottles is available from the café on request. Esquires also offers a child friendly menu. 

The shop can be found to the right of the main museum entrance.

Lockers, wheelchair hire and buggy parking can be found on the right before Reception. Please ask at Reception if you need any assistance. The lockers require a token which can be purchased from Reception for £1.

Assistance/support dogs are welcome at the Museum.


Food & Drink

Esquires Café is situated to the left of the main entrance. The café is fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
