Overview

One of the world’s best-known theatre ensembles, the Royal Shakespeare Company performs the works of Shakespeare, his contemporaries and new writing, throughout the year in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Showcasing two thrust stage auditoria, the 1,000 seat Royal Shakespeare Theatre and 450 seat Swan Theatre, bringing audiences and actors closer together in the best possible setting to experience live theatre.

Directions

By car

Stratford-upon-Avon is a short drive from Junction 15 of the M40, giving good access to the M42, M5, M6 and M25. Our postcode is CV37 6BB.

Car parks

There is a large choice of fee-charging car parks in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Disabled parking

There are seven on Waterside directly outside the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and ten bays on Chapel Lane, the road opposite the Swan Theatre. These spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Southern Lane also has on-road parking for blue badge holders; the ten parking bays at the side and rear of The Courtyard Theatre are still available. There is a car drop off point directly outside the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and a coach drop off point just past the Swan Theatre.

Park and Ride

Stratford’s Park and Ride service runs daily from 7.30am (from 10 am Sunday). The last Park and Ride bus leaves Bridge Street at 11.15pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Show your RSC theatre tickets or email confirmation for a discounted Maxi Family Ticket (2 adults and up to 4 children) – only £2 (all day).

By train

The London Midland service provides travel directly to Stratford-upon-Avon train station from Birmingham (Snow Hill or Moor Street stations). Last train back to Birmingham, Monday – Friday, at 11.30pm

Chiltern Railways offer direct trains from London Marylebone (via Warwick, Warwick Parkway, Leamington Spa, Banbury and Bicester North), with last train back to London, Monday – Friday, at 11.15pm. By bus or coach

By air

Stratford-upon-Avon is 27 miles from Birmingham Airport and 60 miles from East Midlands Airport. It is also convenient for Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports to the south.

Group Visits

Group ticket discounts are available for all Monday to Friday performances, for Theatre Tours and for the Tower.

There is a range of exclusive tour packages available for groups, starting at just £189 for a group of 20, combining a Front of House Tour followed by morning coffee with pastries or a cream tea.

Accessibility

There is level access to all RSC buildings.There are lifts to all floors and accessible toilets on all levels of the theatre.

The RSC offers captioned and audio described performances along with touch tours for all RSC productions, helping to enhance your experience at the theatre.

The Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres are fitted with an induction loop, as is the Box Office, cloakroom, stage door and shop counters. Hearing and Guide dogs are welcome into the buildings, and auditoria.

Fully licensed for wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships, the Royal Shakespeare Theatres offer a stunning setting for a perfect celebration.

Stand in the footprints of famous actors past and present and take your vows centre stage in one of the auditoria, or travel 100 feet above the winding River Avon and enjoy the views from the viewing tower, in the most unusual ceremony room in Stratford-upon-Avon. 9 other licensed spaces are available throughout the building including the charming ‘Round Room’ – a unique circular ceremony room seating 18 guests.

With an on-site catering team, dedicated Event Managers and the spectacular Rooftop Restaurant with unparalleled views across the River Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Theatres offer truly unique and magical spaces to celebrate your special day.

Renewal of Vows and Naming Ceremonies are also catered for.

  • Baby changing facilities in all ladies’ toilets, plus the Swan Theatre and Rooftop Restaurant accessible toilets for gentlemen.
  • Pram-friendly building: level access throughout and lifts to all floors, and we can store prams in our cloakroom during the day on request.

Food & Drink

Rooftop Restaurant and Bar On the third floor of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre with stunning views over the River Avon and Bancroft Gardens, you don’t need to see a show to eat at the Rooftop Restaurant – just an appetite!

For great food and stunning views whatever the occasion visit the Rooftop Restaurant and Bar. Open daily from 10.00am with last orders 9.30pm. The Rooftop Restaurant is the perfect place for coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, pre theatre dining, dinner and Sunday lunch – for family celebrations or a great night out with friends.

The Round room is a private dining room for up to 20 guests and is available to hire with views over the River Avon.

Menus change regularly and all dishes are available as half portions for smaller guests. All dishes are cooked to order, using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

Gluten free and dairy free options available.

With an extensive wine and cocktail list, this is a great place to relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Riverside Cafe The Cafe is open daily from 10am and is situated right next to the River Avon. Fairtrade, organic tea and coffee, snacks, soup and light lunches are available all day. Children can be entertained with our Play Cart, filled with fun activities and books to read.

Swan Cafe Open every day from 10am, the Swan Café is situated near the ‘Plays the Thing’ exhibition. Serving delicious cakes and pastries, sandwiches, good coffee and a selection of wines, spirits and draft beer.

Circle Bar and dining A new menu has been launched for pre-theatre dining. Also open during the interval for drinks.

Susie’s Cafe Bar at The Other Place Kick back with a coffee or a glass of wine at The Other Place and soak up the atmosphere of this creative hub at the RSC.
