The Christmas spirit will awaken at Shakespeare’s Schoolroom & Guildhall in Stratford-upon-Avon this December, when the 15th century building will be dressed for the festive season. Christmas decorations, influenced by the beauty of the natural world, will bring a simple magic to the medieval building, with holly, ivy, bay and wood logs all featured amongst the designs.
The displays will take inspiration from Tudor times, when decorations and garlands were made from winter branches, bright berries and colourful ribbons. Just as then, Yule logs will fill the fireplaces of Shakespeare’s Schoolroom & Guildhall, which in Shakespeare’s day were lit to symbolically mark the 12 days of Christmas.
The Tudor Kissing Bough, the more elaborate precursor to kissing under the mistletoe, also awaits discovery!
Shakespeare’s Schoolroom & Guildhall’s shop will exude its own Christmas charm. Open daily to shoppers and visitors it is full of creative and original gifts that will help you tick off your Christmas list; including literature, history and culture inspired presents. There are also lots of stocking fillers and colourful and playful gifts for the children in your life.
