Stratford-on-Avon MP Nadhim Zahawi took time out from the current hectic Brexit machinations last Friday (or today) to visit his local bus and coach operator – Johnsons at Henley-in-Arden. Peter and John Johnson, 3rd generation business owners were able to brief Nadhim, who is also Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy), on the challenges facing public transport and coach travel, and also to highlight where the coach and bus industry will, with government support, be able to make valuable contributions to improvements in air quality and road congestion in the future.
Nadhim commented, “it was great for me to get a real understanding of what it like to operate a regional coach and bus operation”. John Johnson added, “we discussed national, regional and local transport issues and future investment in electric buses and coaches. We were also able to highlight how bus and coach travel provides much needed transport solutions for the whole community, young and old. And even show how our holiday programme helps to combat loneliness issues with the provision of holidays for customers who need single rooms”.
Further dialogue will be set up between the parties so that John and Peter can help to provide advice to Local Authority decision makers in the future.
