Who are Shakespeare’s England?

Shakespeare’s England is the official Destination Management Organisation for South Warwickshire and the surrounding area. Our role is to promote business and leisure tourism to the area locally, nationally and internationally, to boost the visitor economy and to support businesses in Warwickshire.

Why South Warwickshire?

The Shakespeare’s England region combines the rich heritage of medieval England, world-renowned cultural venues and beautiful countryside, with excellent transport links by air, rail and road, making Warwickshire an ideal location.

Warwickshire and Coventry have long been a gateway to the Midlands, with a history of catering for a wide variety of international and domestic visitors, as tourists, or business visitors, providing high levels of service and a wide variety of suitable hotels, venues and visitor attractions.

At the heart of Shakespeare’s England are the historic towns of Warwick, with its wonderfully complete castle dating back to 914; the medieval town of Stratford upon Avon, home to the world-famous playwright William Shakespeare and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Kenilworth with its rich castle heritage, and royal connections over 900 years and Coventry, city of peace and reconciliation, currently experiencing a renaissance due to being awarded City of Culture for 2021.

The Shakespeare’s England area covers Coventry and South Warwickshire and the surrounding towns and villages. Sitting in the heart of England and well connected by road, rail and air; it is one of the most accessible places in the UK.

By Rail

Rail links into the region

The area is well served by the rail network, with regular fast and frequent train lines coming into Birmingham New Street, which is the regional inter-city hub. The most direct route from London itself is from Euston to Coventry – approx. 1hr, or from Marylebone station to Royal Leamington Spa – approx. 1h 10mins, Warwick or Warwick Parkway – 1hr 20 mins with Chiltern Railways.

  • Birmingham (New Street) to Coventry in 20 mins
  • Birmingham (Moor Street & Snow Hill) to Royal Leamington Spa – 30 mins
  • Birmingham (Moor Street & Snow Hill) to Stratford-upon-Avon – 50 mins
